LOTUS PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM ENHANCEMENTS
In 2009, Lotus Education adopted a new exam development process that relies heavily on internal resources. This significant change was implemented due to a number of factors including security, control, and flexibility. This model was piloted in the second half of 2009 and rolled out officially at the end of the year. Though no change would have been apparent to the test taker, this new process does indirectly affect the Certified Lotus Professional or the would-be Certified Lotus Professional.
Injecting flexibility into the program -- the ability to respond to industry and market trends in a more agile manner -- was something we had been working towards from a strategic perspective for some time. The new model enables us to exert more control in terms of security and aligns the business and development sides of certification more closely. This enables us to deliver tests that are more relevant to the job role in question while safeguarding our intellectual capital more effectively.
Being internally focused, the new model facilitates the collaboration between other IBM organizations and Lotus certification; again, not directly affecting the test taker, but we hope it will yield a broader range of certification titles and offerings in the long term.
The new exam development model is but one example of the ways in which the Lotus Professional Certification Program seeks to improve and enhance not just our processes, but the end results -- our tests and certifications -- so they remain relevant and meaningful not just to IBM and Lotus but also to the individuals who take the tests and the companies who employ them.
In the coming weeks, our first certification of 2010 will be released: a System Administrator certification for Sametime 8.5. Look for the official announcement on the Lotus Certification Public and Private Sites, as well as in a future issue of Clippings. Since the product is now part of the Software Value Plus program, business partners will want to ensure their professionals are certified on the newest release of this engaging product.

MAKING THE MOST OF LIVE NOTES/DOMINO DATA SURFACED IN SHAREPOINT BY ADDING LOGIC AND INTEGRATION WITH SHAREPOINT LISTS
By Gary Devendorf
Displaying, sorting, grouping, and filtering live Notes/Domino data in a SharePoint "Data View" Web part is useful. However, the real value is adding calculated columns, conditional formatting, and linking the data to other SharePoint lists. Thrill your end users by combining existing Notes/Domino applications with the dynamic capabilities of SharePoint. Become a hero by extending the value of existing Notes/Domino applications. This is very easy and only takes a few minutes.
In this third article of the series, we will add value to the Notes/Domino data we surfaced in SharePoint in the previous articles (for the second article in this series, please visit http://www.lotususergroup.org/Submissions.nsf/ContentSpotlight/00ADD03D10DE2038862576DD007C26D1/?OpenDocument ). After all, why surface the data if it provides no additional value? At this point in our demo, we have live Notes/Domino data in a SharePoint "Data View" Web part using a Domino XML Web Agent as its data source.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig1.jpg?openImageResource
As you can see, end users would have no hint that this data is live Notes/Domino data. In fact, now that we have abstracted Notes/Domino data, this article's material is completely independent from the type of data source that was used (i.e., SQL Server, DB2, Lists, Web services, etc.).
We can create a rich user experience, without code, just by using the features of Data View Web parts. To access the Data View setting, we need to open our page with SharePoint Designer.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig2.jpg?openImageResource
Click the arrow at the top right of our data view Web part to display the "Common Data View Tasks" menu.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig3.jpg?openImageResource
To start, we will re-order and add to the columns. Select the "Edit Columns..." menu item. This brings up the "Edit Columns" dialog box.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig4.jpg?openImageResource
Highlight a column name in the right list and use the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons to order the displayed columns as follows: productID, description, location, cost, quantity, reorderlevel.
Next, we add a calculated column by selecting "Add Formula Column..." in the left-hand list and clicking the "Add" button. An "XPath Expression Builder" wizard launches to help you build the calculation.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig5.jpg?openImageResource
By clicking, or just typing, we enter "quantity*cost" in the XPath expression text box. Note the Preview box at the bottom showing the result of the calculation. For now, disregard the format and click OK. A new column, "quantity*cost", now shows in our data view.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig6.jpg?openImageResource
To set the format for this column data, we click the arrow that displays when you hover over one of the new column's values. On the menu that appears, click the "Format as" pull down.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig7.jpg?openImageResource
Then select "Number" from the choices.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig8.jpg?openImageResource
The "Format Number" dialog lets us specify "Currency" and 2 decimal places.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig9.jpg?openImageResource
Click OK to see the formatted column data. You can change the column widths by dragging, and you can change the column label by just directly editing the text in SharePoint Designer.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig10.jpg?openImageResource
Conditional Formatting is a great feature for stressing important data conditions. In our scenario we want to highlight product quantities that are less than the stock re-order level. This requires a calculation and an action. To achieve this, we again click the arrow at the top right of our data view Web part to display the "Common Data View Tasks" menu. This time select "Conditional Formatting".
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig10a.jpg?openImageResource
Notice on the right hand side of the screen a "Conditional Formatting" panel appears.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig11.jpg?openImageResource
In this panel, click the "Create" button and select "Apply formatting".
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig12.jpg?openImageResource
This opens the "Condition Criteria" dialog. Click on the "Click here to add a new clause" link.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig13.jpg?openImageResource
Use the row column pull downs to build the condition to trigger the formatting.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig14.jpg?openImageResource
In the first column select "quantity (Number)". Set the second column to "Less Than". For the third column, select "More Fields" which opens the "More Fields" dialog.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig15.jpg?openImageResource
Here we select the "reorderlevel" field and hit OK. Back in the "Condition Criteria" dialog click OK.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig16.jpg?openImageResource
Now that the condition is defined, we can specify what format to apply when the condition is "True" with the "Modify Style" dialog.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig17.jpg?openImageResource
I've chosen to make the "quantity" field, (specified in the condition clause), font bold and red to make it noticeable. The result is this:
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig18.jpg?openImageResource
There is plenty more we could do with the data in our data view. However, our next step is to link this data to a SharePoint List in another Web part. In our scenario, each product has a location and each location can have one or more sales representatives. Our application will show the list of representatives for the product location you are interested in. So, Location is our key for linking the Notes/Domino data with the representatives SharePoint list.
First, we need to add another data view Web part to our page within SharePoint Designer. Put the focus just above the existing data view Web part by selecting it then hitting the up arrow on your keyboard. Now, on the menu, select "Data View" then "Insert Data View".
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig19.jpg?openImageResource
A new data view Web part appears, prompts for a "Data Source", and displays the Data Source Library in the right hand panel.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig20.jpg?openImageResource
In the Data Source Library, locate the SharePoint Lists section, expand it, click on the "Representatives" list pull down button and select "Show Data".
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig21.jpg?openImageResource
We can now see the fields found in the "Representatives" List.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig22.jpg?openImageResource
Select the "Region", "Rep_Name", and "Phone_Number" fields and drag them to the new data view part. This finishes the new data view part, and we need to focus back on our original data view part to set up the linking.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig23.jpg?openImageResource
Click the arrow at the top right of our original data view Web part to display the "Common Data View Tasks" menu and this time select "Web Part Connections".
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig24.jpg?openImageResource
When the "Web Part Connections Wizard" appears, select the action "Send Row of Data To" and click next.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig25.jpg?openImageResource
On the following page of the wizard, select the radio button next to "Connect to a Web Part on this page" and click the "Next" button.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig26.jpg?openImageResource
With the third page of the wizard, we set the "Target Web Part" to "Representatives", the "Target action" to "Get Filter Values From", and click "Next".
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig27.jpg?openImageResource
The fourth page of the wizard links the key fields in our Web parts. Here, next to the "Region" field in Representatives, we select "location" then "Next".
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig28.jpg?openImageResource
We are almost done. The fifth page of the wizard lets us specify a column whose values will be displayed as hyperlinks that, when clicked, cause communication between the Web parts to happen. Here, select "location" and click "Next".
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig29.jpg?openImageResource
The last page of the wizard just shows us some of the settings and we click "Finish".
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig30.jpg?openImageResource
(A video showing the building of the Web part connection and how it works can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH3-6q97usY .)
Our page in SharePoint Designer doesn't appear to have any changes. To see the result, we must "Save" and "Preview" our page.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig31.jpg?openImageResource
Finally we have the finished page.
http://www.lotususergroup.org/glug.nsf/201004DevendorfFig32.jpg?openImageResource
You can see our "Notes bike parts" page with two Web parts. The top one shows Representatives information while the bottom one shows part inventory information. Look at the third row of the part inventory Web part and note there are 150 "BB Ball Bearings" in stock at a cost of $8.99 and a reorder level of 600. The calculated column we added shows the Total Value of $1348.50 ($8.99 x 150). Furthermore, the conditional formatting we added shows the 150 Quantity as red and bold because 150 is less than the 600 unit reorder level.
Because, Notes/Domino is the data source for the Data View Web part, as the data changes back in the Notes database, the data here changes as well as the calculations and formatting.
Observe the "Location" values are now links that drive the filtering of the Representatives Web part data. If I click on the "Boston" link, I will only see the "Boston" Representatives in the top Web part.
This simple SharePoint 2007 exercise can quickly provide end-user value. However, we only looked at a small set of the SharePoint features and options. Explore other menu options and consider getting SharePoint, SharePoint Designer, and InfoPath training. The Microsoft 2010 products, to be released soon, open up a whole new set of possibilities. In particular, check out Access Services 2010, SharePoint Workspaces 2010, InfoPath 2010, and SharePoint Designer 2010.
Even if this demo is very useful and compelling, there are limitations. Consider that the Notes data here is read-only and the UI is not very "Notes like", possibly making it difficult for existing Notes users. There are ways to add document-level Create/Read/Update/Delete functionality with Domino Web services, and maybe I'll create an article on it soon. Also, you can work on the way the UI looks to make it more "Notes like". Or, you could just use third-party tools like the Quest Web Parts for SharePoint to do all this for you. Like all things software, you can do it yourself or buy a tool that does it for you.
I will be presenting at THE VIEW's Lotus Developer2010 ( http://www.lotusdeveloper2010.com/ ) in Boston May 12-14. Hope to see you there!

RANDOM THOUGHTS ABOUT DATE VALUES
By Julian Robichaux, SNAPPS
Easter is here again, which is that one holiday that's on a completely different day every year, and that got me thinking about calendar dates and programming (I'm sure that's exactly what you think about this time of year too!). I considered writing a "Complete Guide to Lotus Notes Dates" kind of article for the newsletter this month -- talking about LotusScript date values and converting back and forth between LotusScript/Java and NotesDocument items and whatnot -- but that seemed a little boring and is fairly well covered in Domino Designer help anyway.
So instead, here are some random and mostly unrelated tips and bits of code that have to do with working with date and time values. I've used each of them at least once, most of them many times, over the years. You might find at least one of these things to be useful either right away, or at some random time in the future.
Calculating the Number of Days Between Two Date Values
A LotusScript Variant date (Variant type 7, to be exact) is actually stored internally as a LotusScript Double value, although you generally don't see it that way. The integer portion of the number represents the number of days since December 30, 1899, and the decimal portion of the number represents the fraction of the day that has elapsed since midnight.
For example, the date/time January 1, 2001 at 4:00 PM is represented numerically as 36892.5833333333.
As you can see, this isn't a very intuitive way of looking at a date, but it does become useful if you're doing a quick calculation of how many days there are between two dates. For example:
total_day% = Fix(Cdbl(Cdat("07/08/2009"))) - Fix(Cdbl(Cdat("02/15/2009")))
will give you the number of days between those two dates.
Calculating the Number of Seconds Between Two Time Values
We can also calculate the number of seconds between two time values, although you have to write a little bit more code. For example:
Function DifferenceOfTimes (time1 As Variant, time2 As Variant) As Long
On Error Goto processError
Dim dayDiff As Long
dayDiff = Fix(Cdbl(Cdat(time1))) - Fix(Cdbl(Cdat(time2)))
dayDiff = dayDiff*24*60*60
Dim seconds1 As Long, seconds2 As Long
seconds1 = (Hour(Cdat(time1))*60*60) + (Minute(Cdat(time1))*60) + Second(Cdat(time1))
seconds2 = (Hour(Cdat(time2))*60*60) + (Minute(Cdat(time2))*60) + Second(Cdat(time2))
DifferenceOfTimes = dayDiff + (seconds1 - seconds2)
processError:
Exit Function
End Function
Note that this doesn't account for Daylight Saving Time, so if the timespan crosses an evening when DST goes in or out of effect, you'll be an hour off.
Converting To and From a Notes C-API Date Value
If you're calling the Notes C-API from LotusScript, there is a special TIMEDATE structure you need to use in order to pass date values around. As reference, chapter 14-2 of the "Lotus C-API User Guide" ( http://publib-b.boulder.ibm.com/lotus/c2728430.nsf/85255d56004d2bfd85255b1800631684/ebbc9a09ec4ecd0d852562dc006c9157?OpenDocument ) has this information:
"The Domino and Notes TIMEDATE structure consists of two long words that encode the time, the date, the time zone, and the Daylight Savings Time settings that were in effect when the structure was initialized ... The first DWORD, Innards[0], contains the number of hundredths of seconds since midnight, Greenwich mean time ... The date and the time zone and Daylight Savings Time settings are encoded in Innards[1]. The 24 low-order bits contain the Julian Day, the number of days since January 1, 4713 BC."
It gets even more technical from there. The point is that a TIMEDATE structure is an array of 2 DWORD values (Long values to LotusScript programmers), the first being the date and the second being the time. Much like the Double value representation of a date Variant we saw above, it is split at the decimal point.
To get some tips on converting to and from a Notes C-API TIMEDATE value in LotusScript, please see this information I put together about this a few years ago, at: http://www.nsftools.com/tips/APITips.htm#timedatetrick (I was going to reproduce it all here, but it seemed a little tedious).
Formatting Java Date Values as Strings
Here's how to convert a Java Date value to a String. For some reason, I ALWAYS have to look this up, so now I can just look it up here!
SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyy"); System.out.println("Date = " + formatter.format(dateObj));
If you have a Calendar object instead of a Date, just use Calendar.getTime() to get the Date object.
Likewise, to go from a Java String value to a Date, you do something like this:
String sDate = "04/15/2009";
SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyy");
Date dateObj = formatter.parse(sDate);
Timers in LotusScript and Java
In LotusScript, you can calculate elapsed time by using either the Timer function or by making a call to GetThreadInfo(6). Timer gives you the number of milliseconds since midnight (as a Single value), and GetThreadInfo(6) gives you the number of processor clock ticks since boot time (as a Double value). Either way, you capture a start time and an end time, and subtract the two in order to determine elapsed time.
The only extra step you have to perform for GetThreadInfo is to divide the time difference by the number of clock ticks per second, which you can get with a call to GetThreadInfo(7). In theory the GetThreadInfo method is a little more accurate, but in practice I've found that it really doesn't matter which one you use. If you're trying to measure your timing down to the millisecond level, you're probably timing the wrong thing.
Anyway, some sample code might look like this:
Dim startTime As Double
Dim endTime As Double
startTime = Getthreadinfo(6)
'** DO SOME STUFF
endTime = Getthreadinfo(6)
Print "Elapsed seconds = " & _
((endTime - startTime) / Getthreadinfo(7))
In Java, you would use System.currentTimeMillis() to make the same sort of calculation.
Getting a Julian Date Value
This might be a little esoteric, but in the case that you ever want to find the Julian date ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_date ) for a given date value in LotusScript, here's a shortcut:
October 9, 1995 is a "known" Julian day of 2,450,000 (technically 2,449,999.5, since the Julian calendar began at noon), so you can use the difference between your given date and that date for the calculation. For example:
Dim myDate As Variant
Dim julianDate As Long
myDate = DateNumber(2009, 12, 30)
julianDate = Fix(Cdbl(myDate)) - Fix(Cdbl(DateNumber(1995, 10, 9))) + 2450000
Print "Julian day for " & myDate & " is " & julianDate
Julian dates are still used for certain astronomical calculations, it seems. I found this out a few years ago when I was writing some Formula language code to try to determine whether or not a given night had a full moon (see Carl Tyler's blog archive at http://www.iminstant.com/iminstant/iminstant.nsf/d6plinks/CTYR-78QRQD for the code, if you're interested in that sort of thing).
Calculating Easter Sunday
Since I started off talking about Easter, I'll finish up with how to calculate Easter Sunday. While you can calculate most recurring holidays pretty easily (because they either fall on a particular day of the month or a particular weekday of the month), the calculation of Easter is a little more difficult.
Technically, on the Gregorian calendar, Easter Sunday falls on the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon, but that's not a date that's intuitively determined or easily calculated in your head. However, there are algorithms that will perform this calculation for you. Below is a LotusScript rendition of Butcher's method for calculating Easter (see http://www.smart.net/~mmontes/nature1876.html for more information about the history of this function):
Function GetEaster (Byval thisYear As Integer) As Variant
'** Butcher's method of calculating Easter - see
'** http://www.smart.net/~mmontes/nature1876.html
Dim easterMonth As Integer
Dim easterDay As Integer
'** adjust for 2-digit years
If (thisYear < 100) Then
If (thisYear < 50) Then
thisYear = thisYear + 2000
Else
thisYear = thisYear + 1900
End If
End If
Dim a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, p
a = thisYear Mod 19
b = thisYear \ 100
c = thisYear Mod 100
d = b \ 4
e = b Mod 4
f = (b + 8) \ 25
g = (b - f + 1) \ 3
h = (19 * a + b - d - g + 15) Mod 30
i = c \ 4
k = c Mod 4
l = (32 + 2 * e + 2 * i - h - k) Mod 7
m = (a + 11 * h + 22 * l) \ 451
easterMonth = (h + l - 7 * m + 114) \ 31
p = (h + l - 7 * m + 114) Mod 31
easterDay = p + 1
GetEaster = Datenumber(thisYear, easterMonth, easterDay)
End Function

IBM PROFESSSIONAL CERTIFICATION PRINTED CERTIFICATES
Members of the IBM Professional Certified Community have exclusive access to the new on-line eStore ( https://www-304.ibm.com/certify/member/ccsc.nsf/mainForm?OpenForm&page=65 ) accessible only via the IBM Certified Professional Members Site. In the future, the eStore will provide IBM Certified Professionals the opportunity to purchase certification logo items based on community feedback.
Over the last two or three years, all IBM SWG Brands ceased issuing hardcopy certificates in order to align ourselves with more environmentally sound business practices. Sending out hard copies to every certified professional, regardless of whether or not they wanted one, was not a green way to do business; especially considering the number of certificates ending up at the wrong address.
With the launch of the eStore, IBM is offering professionals the opportunity to purchase a high-quality printed certificate. This certificate is printed on ultra-fine parchment paper featuring the official IBM Professional certification embossed seal. Included is a newly designed wallet card that highlights your status as an IBM Certified Professional. The certificate is suitable for framing in either an 8.5" x 11" document frame or an 8" x 10" frame.
Note that the PDF file certified professionals receive via email is a valid certificate, and the purchase of a printed certificate and wallet card is an option brought to you by the IBM Certification Program.

FIVE WAYS TO SAVE ON NOTES, SAMETIME, AND QUICKR USER TRAINING
IT departments are expected to find cost savings to help their organizations in today's challenging economic times. One possible action may be to eliminate or reduce user training. Is this really saving your organization money? Calls to the Help Desk will increase and user productivity will decrease as they attempt to use Notes, Sametime, and Quickr without any training. What is the right solution? Classroom training is expensive and time-consuming, plus, you still need to acquire or write the class materials. Instead, how about delivering user training right to the user's desk using the Notes client and/or a Web browser? TLCC's user courses can save your organization money by:
1. Increasing user productivity by delivering training right in the Notes sidebar (shown below)
2. Creating custom user training that fits your environment with a minimal investment in both time and money
3. Maximizing your investment in Notes, Sametime, and Quickr by training users to take advantage of all the features in the Notes client, not just mail
4. Reducing calls to your Help Desk
5. Acquiring just one low cost corporate license for all the courses needed for both new users and those who are upgrading
Below is an image of TLCC's Using the Notes 8.5 Standard Client course in the Notes 8.5 sidebar:

LOTUS KNOWS YOU'RE EXCELLENT CAMPAIGN
Since the launch of this campaign, we have had a number of submissions qualify for posting on the LE YouTube Channel. ( http://www.youtube.com/user/LotusTraining ). Many thanks go out to the enthusiastic members of the community who are among the first to be added to the Lotus Knows Certified Instructors are the Best play list ( http://www.youtube.com/user/LotusTraining#p/c/2138ED9A682465D3 ). The content is fresh and the quality is great. The program encourages all members of the community to check out the videos made by their peers ... some may inspire you to submit one of your own!
The Lotus Knows Excellent Instructors Campaign, announced at Lotusphere and officially launched last month, gives all Certified Lotus Instructors an opportunity to submit short videos demoing or giving a talk about a unique feature of a Lotus or Portal product. Instructors can include a bio blurb or slide outlining their expertise, qualifications, and company information. Qualifying videos are posted to the LE YouTube Channel. Please note that the duration of the submissions has been changed to less than ten minutes (originally, we announced the duration to be between 3-4 minutes).
Although a detailed outline of the submission process was sent out to all Certified Lotus Instructors via email and posted in the LE Instructor Forum ( https://www-03.ibm.com/lotusquickr/lotusinstructorforum/main.nsf?Login&RedirectTo=%2Flotusquickr%2Flotusinstructorforum%2Fmain.nsf ), do not hesitate to contact your Instructor Program Administrator with any questions you may have regarding this initiative. See you on YouTube!

UPDATE ON THE INSTRUCTOR PRIVATE SITE
As of press time, there has been no word from the developer as to when the Certified for Lotus Software Instructor Private Site will be migrated to new servers. All items that would normally be posted to the private site are being added to the Forum in an attempt to lessen the inconvenience caused by the lack of availability of the private site. A Certified Instructor can check if they have access by clicking on the above link. For those who do not have access but are interested, please contact your Instructor Program Administrator for assistance.
