The Lotusphere Comes to You road show is about to begin again and with a third new name. A slight twist to last year's name would be more appropriate. Lotusphere Comes to You turned into the Social Business Roadshow and also the Get Social Roadshow for 2011. You will not find tons of technical sessions at these events, but more of the management overview and strategy sessions instead.
This year welcomes the Business Gets Social 2012 IBM Software Roadshow. I had no idea what the difference meant after first seeing it, so I went digging. I didn't come up with much. This begs the question: Why the changing of the names? I find it easier to market to customers if there is consistency in the naming. This means I do not have to go back each year to convince them. I just update them on new topics that will be covered.
I am unsure why IBM has taken the approach of changing the name for the single-day seminar events, but the concept this year is the same: A day of IBM speakers telling you how important it is to be social and create exceptional experiences. But, they have made more Lotusphere content than ever before available online.
I would take advantage of these day events to meet with any IBM executive that appears in your city to learn more about the initiative that IBM has taken around OpenSocial and being a social business. Find all the dates and locations with registration here.
This month, I answer questions on public name errors in the mailfile, focus on another step in OpenSocial knowledge, deal with a Sametime servlet security reminder, and finally, a mail.box that constantly grows.
You can always reach me in my VGS (Virtual Gratification Syndrome) world via Twitter, Skype, Foursquare, Facebook, Diigo, Tumblr, GTalk, AOL, Yahoo!, MSN, ICQ, Sametime, Greenhouse, BleedYellow, smoke signal, carrier pigeon, my podcasts, or my blog for your questions, comments, and ideas. Notice that voicemail isn't on that list? If those are not enough I can name another 200 ways in social networks.

FROM THE IDONOTES MAILBOX: PUBLIC NAME ERROR IN MAILFILE

QUESTION: Chris,
A user is getting the error 'duplicate public name cmemoobject in use moduel coreemailclasses' when he tries to open an email. I deleted his desktop8 and cache files — but still getting the error.
Chris D.
ANSWER: Chris,
Great question and one that is usually a simple solution. Open the user mailfile with the error in Domino Designer. If you navigate to Shared Code Script Libraries you will find one of them is marked not to prohibit design refresh or modifications. Unchecking this option and then refreshing the design will normally take care of the problem.
This can be brought on by a custom mail template being used and a library being restricted from update. Be careful anytime you attempt to modify the core areas of the mail template as unforeseen results like this can occur.

DOING THE SHINDIG

Last month, I introduced you to OpenSocial beginnings to prime you for some of the futures and direction of IBM software. Another part of implementing OpenSocial and understanding the architecture is Apache Shindig.
"Apache Shindig, a word meaning party, was originally started by Google in 2007 as a reference container for hosting OpenSocial compatible widgets in any website".
With the architecture they designed, the goal is to have any site able to host social apps in a matter of hours. IBM Connections is one of the first softwares to embrace the idea of bringing in external data through these social containers.
As the administrator, this means you have to review security procedures and planning to verify internal information is not exposed accidentally through these new doorways you are installing.
Interestingly, Apache Shindig addresses a set of standards that look very close to what IBM Connections offers:
  • Profiles
  • Activities
  • Relationships (My Network in IBM Connections) and more
  • Shared Applications
IBM also announced that the new Lotus Notes and Domino Social Edition will offer integration and support for OpenSocial. This leads into embedded experiences and activity streams. I recently wrote some thoughts on activity streams on my blog.
Embedded experience simply allows you to easily embed the capabilities of a social application into another application. Imagine a simple Twitter feed inside of the Lotus Notes client; a simple and effective gadget if that will benefit your business.
To close up this month's bit on OpenSocial, you should consider that putting together everything I mention above means you can have a single app that follows standards and will allow a single app to run in IBM Connections, Lotus Notes Social Edition, and even iNotes.
I am thinking ahead about what to cover next month on OpenSocial. If you want a particular area discussed, contact me in any of the ways listed in my introduction.

QUICK TIP: SAMETIME SECURITY SERVLET SECURITY REMINDER

A few months ago, a security warning was released by IBM about the Sametime configuration servlet. If left unprotected, it could allow anonymous users to gain read access to configuration data on the server.
The fix is quite simple, and hopefully shows as a standard in future releases. An edit to the sametime.ini file, the servlets.porpoerties file and username placement for stconfig.nsf must be put in place.
If you have not completed these steps, even with a Sametime server that only sits behind the firewall, I suggest visiting technote #1569209 for the complete steps.

FROM THE IDONOTES MAILBOX: THE MAIL.BOX IS GROWING

QUESTION: Chris,
Mail.box seems to be growing again. I observed this morning that mail1.box is at 2.2 GB and mail2.box is at 1.8 GB. We may need to reactivate the program docs for fixup and compact and also start monitoring them at least two times a week. Please let me know the plan of action.
I am not touching these dbs today so that we collect any information. After that plan to run a fixup -r followed by a compact.
Thanks for all your help.
Regards
Rama
ANSWER: Rama,
This normally occurs with a corrupt document or mass mailing attempts. It can also appear if the nightly compact task was unable to complete successfully.
Was there any indication in the logs that it did not run? Look around 1 a.m. when the standard time (unless modified) for it to start normally happens.
I also noted that you said you were going to run a fixup -r on the database. There are no lowercase flags, nor an "r" option for fixup. There is for updall. Please refer to technote #1102292 for a list of fixup switches.
