If you have Excel 2003 and you open a view in Internet Explorer (regular, not with ReadViewEntries), you should have an option to "Export to Excel" though. Same concept, but using an HTML table instead of XML.

Regarding the agent, you'll need to parse out all the illegal XML characters for that to work in the general case. Me and Rob talked about that before the session, but never got around to putting the code in to parse the data. You have to get rid of things like &, <, and > at the very least, although strictly you need to parse out more than that. You could also dump everything into a CDATA section.

Sorry for the problems. By calling the agent and a view as a parameter, Excel launched and gave me the same XML dialog box. I chose number 1 and it worked great. This is nice because the data is live and you can add other calculations or graphs to your spreadsheet based on the live Notes data.
I proceeded to try this same agent with one of my own databases. The code was not liking some characters in some large text strings like the "&". I did and replacesubstring on it and I got another error on a different field but have not yet figured what the issue is. This same idea has been on my mind.
I like both of your choices of sessions to mess with.
Here's a question I have from something I tried today. In BP210, there's a slide about reading the xml format from a Notes view
(?ReadViewEntries) directly into MS Excel. I'm using Excel 2003, and when I simply open the view, your presented with 3 choices:
1) As an xml list
2) As a Read-Only workbook
3) Use the XML source task pane

I'm thinking that the xml option would be a really great way of linking directly to the source without using the odbc driver(requires Notesql driver installed). I tried each of these choices and the output is not exactly perfect in either case. Any suggestions would be great. I only spent about 15 minutes so I'll continue to research. Thanks guys!

Comment From Todd

This is really cool. We are a growing school district in Texas. We use MAC's and PC, using notes for email. We also use IWORKS08 as our office applications. I have discovered that when you use notes and go to attach a document that is from keynotes, pages, or numbers, it is greyed out or not accessible to notes. Can anyone help me with this issue. I need to know of a way to make these files accessible to notes. Thank you in advance for your help.

Jamie L.
And i have a question about your aswer. you said "Try increasing the wait time before failover and probing and try it again". this mean is "increas L4 switch's prove checking time "? Now The checking time is 10 second. So Can you recomment how frequently have to check filter's server's 25 port?
If you guide me about that, i'll try to change the option again.
and other question is i've understand about our L4 switch's memory is not enough, is it right? so we have to increase L4 switch's memory?

Try increasing the wait time before failover and probing and try it again. You can even do it supervised without worrying about leaving it as a permanent solution - I'd suggest trying it to verify that it is your problem!

Comment From Jess Stratton

Hi Peter! Sure, it's possible, you just have to create Location documents and have everyone pull their mail down via POP3. I'm not sure how often people do it, probably never. There isn't a good reason to do it. It's less secure than having them on the server, actually. Especially if you have employees changing workstations often (which I see alot) then you'll end up with gazillions of mail files on each machine. Not to mention what happens when a machine dies? There's extra overhead because it's not possible to simply wipe the drive and start over. You'd have to find the mail file and back it up, first. Which brings us to backups.
Also, you'll miss the benefits of calendaring and scheduling.
Besides, why even have a Domino server at that point?
Just say no.

Comment From Tony Membrino

Hi Peter...glad you're going to Admin2008 at the end of the month. The mail file is still on the server, but the user also has a replica of it on the local drive.
