PermaLink Template issues strike again11/26/2007 07:22 AM

Remember back in the July issue of the Developer Tips newsletter when I talked about a freak Replace Design incident?

Here's something that happened to me just the other day.

Client calls on a Monday morning. "We can't start any of our Domino servers."

... various troubleshooting techniques, leads to discovery of the following error: "Server document not found".

Me: "OK, let's verify names.nsf exists. Go to the server, and open "nlnotes.exe".

Client: "OK, I'm there."

Me: "Now open 'names.nsf', it will either be via workspace icon, or do a File-->Database-->Open."

Client: "Done. I'm at the Inbox."

Me:  "Uh.... I think I've found the problem."

After a quick Replace Design with the correct template, we replicated, and they were off to the races again.

This is a public service announcement. Apparently this happens more often than even I thought!   Every so often, check the access levels of the Domino Directory. Make sure everyone that has Manager or Design access knows what the Domino Directory is for, and how to use it.

Server document not found. That will get you up and running quickly on a Monday morning!

Jess
