PermaLink Categorized Views - how to exclude documents02/20/2008 12:50 PM

Hello all,

I have what is probably a simple issue, but I'll be darned if I can figure it out and apparently I'm not phrasing the question right when googling it.

I have a view with several fields, with the first, and only first, field being categorized.  This works just fine.  The problem is, the field that is categorized is NOT a required field when the users fill it out.  So I therefore have a bunch of documents that have "(Not Categorized)".  How do I write the selection formula to exclude those "Not Categorized" documents from this view?

Thank you all very much, in advance, for any insight you might have.

Hi Stephen!
You can also use a column formula to substitute, if you need those docs in the view.
You can use a view column formula that says:
@If(fieldname!="";fieldname;"TBA") or something like that.

If the fieldname is populated, it will categorize as normal. But you can include a "catchall" category for all the ones that the field is left blank.

Dan, you are da man! Worked like a charm. I had been trying !@isnull(field) and field="(Not Categorized)". I just didn't think of "".

Thank you so much for your help! You are going to make me look so good to my boss.
Steph

Include field!="" in your selection formula where field is the name of the categorized field.
