After a dinner in the Product Showcase reception party and Ask-The-Experts, Blackberry hosted a night of fun right across the hall in the grand ballroom.

Debbie Lynd hosted a game show for us called "Last Geek Standing", in which six gurus and six attendees faced off against each other.

Questions ranged from "What does LDAP stand for?" (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) and "What version of Notes created the Navigator, and then what version was it discontinued?" (R4.5, and R5). I think Chris Miller was the only one to get right on the guru side.

The funny thing was, the questions were being Tweeted live and a rousing Twitter discussion was being created also (in addition to the funny answers being presented onstage, by both guru's and attendees alike!)

I think the best answer had to be LDAP - "Lotus Dorks At Play".

After various rowdy elimination rounds (in which even Debbie Lynd herself got a vote of elimination, don't ask), the remaining two geeks was one attendee (sorry I did not make out her name) and Rob Axelrod. The attendee won, and both her and Rob were given a voucher to pick out a Blackberry of their choice!

A much needed and deserved night of laughing for everyone. Thanks to the View and Blackberry for putting on another great event!

Patricia Neely posted a picture here if you'd like a visual: --> http://www.lotususergroup.org/blogsphe.nsf/d6plinks/SPOB-7R6KA2
As usual, arriving brings a sense of homecoming - the hotel bar is right near the entrance, so all one has to do is walk into the hotel to be greeted by familiar faces.

If you are here for the conference, be sure to wander around the hotel bar after hours. It's a great way to meet new people who are also at the conference. There's always a few folks there having drinks and socializing!

Onto the keynote - After a brief introduction by Debbie Lynd, we're handed off to Bob Picciano.

Where is Lotus now? What is their status?

GROWING
Notes and domino - 12k new customers since ND8 launched.
Connections is the fastest growing software product in Lotus history.

INNOVATING
Connections is the worlds' first integrated social software for business.

EXPANDING
More than half of Fortune Global 100 now use LN/Domino.
30% more Sametime customers in 2008.

PARTNERING
Extensive partnerships with market leaders such as Blackberry, SAP, LinkedIn, Salesforce, Skype.

Lotus is introducing a new concept called Smarter Planet.

It is an instrumented, interconnected, and intelligent planet.
The world is connected: economically, socially, and technically.
Whether it be people, companies, institutions, industries, man made systems, or nature's systems.
How do we build a smarter planet?
We connect with employees, customers and partners to build relationships that drive results.
We collaborate from anywhere to become a more agile organization.
We innovate to leverage the power of participation and generate new ideas.
We optimize the cost of enabling people.

The Collaboration Agenda (a maturity model)
Baseline communications - telephony, email, file sharing
Realtime communications - IM, presence awareness, web and video conferencing, web content
On Demand access - Unified communcations, directories and profiles, portals, mobility

LotusLive offerings for 2009
Web conferencing
Connections & Engage (integrated suite of web collaboration solutions more complete than Connections)
iNotes for email, and Lotus Notes hosted messaging (more fully-featured than basic web iNotes & mobile sync)
Sametime Unyte events

Lotus Symphony
4 million downloads and counting

Lotus Notes 8.5
Immediate reduced costs from Domino configuration tuner, compression, and DAOS
Integration with iCal subscriptions, Calendar overlay (transparently overlay an personal external calendar such as Google or Yahoo! onto your Lotus Notes work calendar), security simplification, Connections, LinkedIn and Alloy
Domino App modernization with Eclipse-based Designer and xPages for Web 2.0 extensions

Alloy Software by IBM & SAP
To access SAP processes and information using Lotus Notes
Reports management
Travel management (request, review and approve trip details quickly)
Workflow decision management (manage SAP workflow steps in Notes)
Leave Management (manage vacations from Lotus Notes Calendar)

Demo of LinkedIn profile in a sidebar application based on an email from that person. I have no idea if that is only by using Alloy or a basic sidebar widget.
Demo of activating widgets. Drag and drop a widget into the sidebar, and instantly the widget is "live" and active, no client restarts necessary.
Demo of calendar overlay - in realtime, pulls down external calendars and overlays the view (does not actually ADD the overlayed appointments).
Demo of iNotes - ultralite mode for iPhone and comparable devices

LN & Domino cost reductions from upgrading
Storage costs reduced by 50%
Administration savings of 30%
Improved end user productivity

Lotus has set up their own YouTube channel: Collaboration4You
They keynote ended with a showing of a video similar to the Lotusphere closing session video.

I am in Boston all week, please come back here and blog about your week at Admin/Developer 2009, and please say hi!
