- Russell’s Convenience is a subsidiary of HJB Convenience Corporation that retails high-end foods and other convenience products to customers in large high rise office buildings.
Russell’s Convenience needed an easy way to connect and share information among its 25 stores and with its licensees, vendors and partners to quickly identify and resolve operational issues. The company adopted the IBM LotusLive Engage service to enable staff members to communicate more seamlessly and transparently across stores and with external stakeholders. As a result, the company now has greater transparency into operations and is able to respond more quickly and flexibly to the insights generated from more engaged project teams. - Cabin Attendants Union - The Cabin Attendants Union (CAU) is responsible for the organization of air stewardesses, stewards and pursers in the Danish division of Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). The union is funded by monthly contributions from the salaries of 1,500 members, which CAU checks each month. However, its legacy email and document management solution was struggling to cope with the workload. Many CAU staff also work part-time as cabin attendants, so the company needed mobile support to be built into its solution.
Previously, CAU used Microsoft Outlook and Exchange for its email and calendaring but encountered a number of problems and issues with this system. CAU worked with IBM Advanced Business Partner Teamsoft to consolidate its Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Exchange software into a more reliable IBM Lotus/ Domino based document management platform – TeamCase – which is now used to file all the company’s records. A special module developed by Teamsoft handles the monthly calculation of member fees, and Lotus Traveler and iNotes applications provide mobile functionality. As a result, CAU eliminated its paper processes, reducing its storage footprint by 10 square meters. With TeamCase, calculation of membership fees now takes hours, not days. - Chilean Red Cross (Cruz Roja Chilena) - Chilean Red Cross seeks to fulfill the humanitarian values of the International Red Cross Federation. Active in Chile for more than a century, it focuses predominantly on disaster response, disaster management and health. The organization performed most of its logistics work manually and lacked the means to optimally manage its resources and coordinate disaster response and humanitarian relief with the desired rate of speed and efficiency.
The Chilean Red Cross modernized its operations with an innovative cloud-based disaster and resource management solution that provides online collaboration tools and Web 2.0 capabilities. As a result of this implementation, technological capabilities of disaster response operations increased by 100 percent, search rate completion for missing persons was accelerated from two years to two weeks, and the ability to mobilize and deliver relief aid with accuracy and speed increased significantly. - Crowley Maritime Corporation - Crowley Maritime Corporation (Crowley) provides a diversified suite of marine, transportation and logistics services tailored to the needs of business and government entities operating in a range of industries worldwide.
Crowley needed to make more applications available to customers. The company worked with IBM and IBM Business Partner Ultramatics, Inc. to develop a multitiered IBM WebSphere® software-based solution that enables its customers to intuitively access applications and perform some administrative tasks, such as shipment bookings, themselves via the Internet. As a result of this solution, Crowley saves USD500,000 annually, while reducing staffing needs and increasing customer satisfaction by streamlining customer support processes and enabling customer self-service. - EllisDon - EllisDon is an employee-owned company, founded in London, Ontario in 1951 and has grown to become a major international firm. EllisDon provides services in Construction Management, Project Management, Design Build, Public-Private Partnerships (P3) and General Contracting.
The IT infrastructure at EllisDon was costly, difficult to manage, and was failing to keep pace with rapid business growth, causing lost productivity due to performance bottlenecks and service degradation. EllisDon worked with IBM to deploy a private cloud solution comprising IBM System x® servers running VMware vSphere virtualization technology, with virtualized data storage on IBM XIV® Storage System. IBM Global Technology Services - Integrated Technology Services and Global Services - Application Services create a mobile Application that allows on-site visitors to use location-based mobile technology and live video feeds to significantly enhance their experience of the event.
From tennis courts to food courts, ATMs to restrooms, the Wimbledon App offers a pop-up display to annotate what the user is looking at or where the nearest facility is located. Location information can be displayed on a map of the Wimbledon site and a “take me there” option guides you to your destination. Even more exciting—by using GPS mapping and the phone’s internal compass—the App “knows” what the user is looking at. If a user points the phone towards one of the three match courts, the user can “see through the walls” and watch real-time tennis on any court, from anywhere in the venue.

- Sennheiser - Established in 1945, Sennheiser is one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of audio equipment with customers and partners in 90 countries, and annual sales of around €389 million. - Knoxville Utilities Board - Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) is a municipal utility that provides electric, gas, water and wastewater services to approximately 440,000 customers in Knoxville, Tennessee. KUB’s website had little customer self-service functionality, forcing customers to contact the company’s call center to access account information, start and stop service, pay bills and report outages.
